Sr. Apartments – Acton Civill Institute/The Coeymans School

28 modern senior apartments were converted from the historic Coeymans School

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

U.W. Marx was hired as construction manager to carefully renovate and convert the long-vacant and deteriorated historic Coeymans School building into a much-needed community senior housing facility. A total of 28 modern senior apartments were converted from the structure’s classrooms, attic and gymnasium. Special consideration was taken due to the historic nature of the 2.6 acre site, including the presence of a War Memorial that remains on the grounds.

Schedule and budget were met even as the construction team dealt with the challenges presented by the various configurations of the apartments. The structure’s original design as an educational institution required a unique layout for each apartment.

The 1874 National Historic Register-listed building is well-suited to meet the needs of its mature residents, and once again contributes to the region’s tax base.
