Project Description

In conjunction with The Community Builders, Inc.

The Hillside View Apartments project included demolition, rehabilitation and new construction to produce 58 new affordable apartments in Schenectady’s Hamilton Hill neighborhood. 25 of the apartments are designated for seniors, while 33 are reserved as family apartments. The development includes a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.

Included in the $20 million project were multiple locations on Stanley Street and the re-purposing of the former Horace Mann School at 602 Craig Street and the former St. Columba’s School at 400 Craig Street. Completed in 2018, the former school buildings feature on-site laundry, ample parking, recreational space and community rooms with computer labs and common kitchenettes. The 400 Craig Street address includes first floor space dedicated to community programming provided by local groups including Capital Roots and the Albany Barn.

Both the Horace Mann School and the St. Columba School buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
