Selected Water & Water Treatment Facilities

EXPANSION & UPGRADES / GENERAL CONTRACTING

Mohawk View Water Treatment Plant
U.W. Marx provided general contracting services at the Town of Colonie site along the Mohawk River. The project included construction of a 21,000 SF expansion to the existing plant, as well as a new pumping station, new chemical storage building, and demolition and renovation of existing facilities.

As a result of construction, the plant is now capable of producing 30 million gallons of drinking water per day. The project was honored as "2005 Project of the Year: Environmental/Water >$10 million" by the American Public Works Association, Capital Branch.

EXPANSION & UPGRADES / GENERAL CONTRACTING

Schroon Water Treatment Plant
U.W. Marx provided general contracting services for this project within the boundaries of New York State’s Adirondack Park. AES Northeast of Plattsburgh, NY provided engineering services for the upgrade and improvement project.

The scope of work at the existing facility includes installation of two new clarifiers, construction of a new control building, upgrades to the aeration system, and installation of a new belt press & mechanical screening.

A relatively mild winter and agressive execution of the construction schedule has allowed Marx to shave months off of the original schedule. Substantial completion was originally contracted to occur in April 2008. The project reached substantial completion in August 2007.

UPGRADES & RENOVATIONS / GENERAL CONTRACTING

Poughkeepsie Water Treatment Plant
U.W. Marx was contracted to upgrade and renovate the existing Poughkeepsie plant. Located on the campus of Marist College, it serves 70,000 customers, generating 19 million gallons of drinking water per day.

The treatment plant was built in the 1960’s, and required a major overhaul to conform to the strict federal drinking water standards. Plant expansion and improvements, engineered by CH2M Hill , included a new chemical building, a new gravity sludge thickener, new surge tank, replacement of the existing low lift pump station electrical system, and the replacement of three solids-contact clarifier mechanisms.

A new conference room was also constructed, as were renovations to staff work and break areas.

NEW CONSTRUCTION / GENERAL CONTRACTING

Pownal Wastewater Treatment Plant
The new Pownal Wastewater Treatment Plant project reached substantial completion on June 13, 2006 - two weeks ahead of schedule, despite the record rainfall recorded in the Northeast that year.

The new 0.26 mgd wastewater treatment plant, designed by engineering firm Forcier, Aldrich and Associates of Essex Junction, VT, is located on the banks of the Hoosic River in North Pownal. The new facility features an SBR System with fine bubble aeration (2 units), UV disinfection, PLC w/alarm dialer/notification system, and a computer workstation w/SCADA system and remote access.

NEW CONSTRUCTION / GENERAL CONTRACTING

Halfmoon Water Treatment Plant
U.W. Marx teamed with engineering firm Clough, Harbour & Associates, LLP and more than 50 subcontractors to build this award-winning water treatment plant.

New construction at this site consisted of a 13,050 SF treatment plant, a 1,575 SF office building, and a 10 million gallon per day pumping station on the shore of the Hudson River. The facility is currently licensed to produce 2 million gpd of high-quality drinking water, but was designed and constructed to allow for a doubling of the plant's capacity to meet the growing community's water needs.

Completed in the summer of 2003, the fast-tracked project was delivered under budget, receiving a ‘Best of 2003 Award of Merit: Environmental Category’ from New York Construction News. Read the article...

UPGRADES & RENOVATIONS / GENERAL CONTRACTING

Saratoga Wastewater Treatment Plant
U.W. Marx performed new construction and facility upgrades for two unique projects at the Saratoga Wastewater Treatment Plant.

In 1996, U.W. Marx constructed a new biofilter and odor control building and installed two new 90-foot diameter final clarifiers, a new lime feed system, a blower building and new aeration equipment. The facility is now capable of handling 18 million gallons of wastewater per day.

Three years later, Marx was awarded a contract to install an ultraviolet disinfection system. The scope of work included installation of the UV ststem, as well as concrete and electrical work, bypass pumping and instrumentation and control systems. The state-of-the-art systemreplaced the sewer district's existing gaseous chlorine disinfection system.
