Selected Transportation Facilities |
CDTA Rensselaer Rail Station, Rensselaer, NY The U.W. Marx Construction Management team built this new award-winning intermodal transportation center for the Capital District Transportation Authority. Features of the new 80,000 SF rail facility include expansive passenger waiting areas, glass skylights, climate-controlled access to the tracks, and top floor dedicated to retail and commercial space overlooking the main lobby. The project included a new multi levelparking garage and surface parking area (creating 1,800 new spaces), in addition to track and rail bed improvements, and a pedestrian/automobile bridge linking Broadway and East Street in downtown Rensselaer directly to the station. The existing tracks at the nation's 9th busiest train station were reconfigured, and a fourth track added. A new signal system was also installed, along with a new by-pass track for freight trains. Completed in 2002 at a cost of $53 million, it is the first new train station built in the United States since World War II. Construction of the new station extended a tradition of continuous train service from this location that was begun in 1831.

CDTA Saratoga Train Station, Saratoga Springs, NY U.W. Marx constructed this new rail facility for the Capital District Transporation Authority. The project involved the demolition and restoration of an historic train station in the upstate New York resort town of Saratoga Springs. The design features of the new facility reflect the style of the surrounding Saratoga community. Improvements at the site included a new entrance road, new utility connections, enhancement of intermodal access and new infrastructure. Structural improvements include all new utilities, new station façade and new roof. The new structure also features a larger passenger waiting area, larger windows, and attractive retail spaces. Intensive value engineering efforts by the Marx team enabled the CDTA to realize more than $300,000 in savings compared to the original low bid.> |
