State University of New York Parking Garage, Albany, NY
Located near Interstate 787 in downtown Albany, this modern parking structure provides five levels of parking,
totaling 679 spaces, for SUNY Administration staff and visitors.
After workers unearthed potentially significant artifacts at the site,
Hartgen Archeological Associates was called in to
conduct an extensive dig in close coordination with the U.W. Marx team.
The site was found to contain numerous significant artifacts, including items left behind by Native Americans
and early Dutch settlers. Portions of Albany’s early 1600’s Fort Orange stockade were also revealed.
Constructed under contract with the State University Construction Fund, the 51,000 s/f parking structure was
begun by U.W. Marx in the spring of 1999 and was completed in 2000, on time and within budget.
