MEDICAL FACILITY / ADDITIONS & RENOVATIONS / NEW CONSTRUCTION Multiple Projects, St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, NY U.W. Marx is providing construction services to St. Peter's Hospital for multiple projects on the healthcare facility campus, including renovations and additions to the Cancer Care Center, Electrophysiology Lab, Dialysis Room and Medical Library, as well as the contruction of eight new operating rooms and clinical laboratories. The projects are part of a larger $300 million expansion and renovation of the hospital, allowing it to continue its history of providing high-quality health care to NY's Capital District. The Cancer Care Center project consisted of 12,000 SF of interior renovation and a 3,000 SF addition to the existing facility. The scope of work included demolition, cast-in-place concrete foundations and a new linear accelerator vault. Marx has worked closely with Envision Architects, ICOR Engineering, Ryan-Biggs Associates and Excel Engineering, carefully coordinating the consultants and subcontractors to ensure that the multi-phased, fast-tracked projects allow the hospital's operations to continue unabated throughout all construction processes. | |||||
RESEARCH LABORATORY / NEW CONSTRUCTION Gen*NY*Sis Center for Excellence in Cancer Genomics / Cancer Research Center, East Greenbush, NY MARX/GILBANE - A Joint Venture served as Construction Manager for this new $45 million biotechnology cancer research center, constructed on a fast-track delivery method for the University at Albany Foundation on the university's East Campus in East Greenbush, NY. The U.W. MARX/GILBANE Building Company team worked with architectural firm Einhorn Yaffee Prescott Architecture & Engineering, P.C. to build the new award-winning research facility as part of a New York State economic development program. The 116,000-square-foot research facility contains labs, vivarium, offices, conference spaces, seminar auditorium and fitness suite, allowing university faculty to conduct collaborative cancer research with industry partners in a state-of-the-art biotechnology facility. The facility also houses specialized research areas for molecular biology, bioinformatics, genetic exploration and pre-clinical studies. The Cancer Research Center features a two-story "Wall of Memory and Hope" displaying plaques or inscriptions from donors who wish to memorialize individuals affected by cancer. | |||||
MEDICAL FACILITY / RENOVATION Vassar Brothers Medical Center South Tower, Poughkeepsie, NY U.W. Marx provided general contracting services for an interior retro-fit project at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. The project encompassed more than 26,000 square-feet of the full-service hospital's South Tower. The scope of work at the Hudson Valley hospital included extensive mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades, new floor, wall and ceiling finishes, and high quality architectural woodwork. These renovation efforts on the tower's sixth and seventh floors have provided for the addition of 80 new patient beds and accompanying nurse stations. The project commenced in November of 2004, with substantial completion reached on time in July of 2005. |
300MM WAFER MANUFACTURING FACILITY / NEW CONSTRUCTION Structural Foundation, CESTM Phase II, Albany, NY U.W. Marx worked under Contract 29e of the NanoFab II Cleanroom Expansion at the UAlbany Institute for Materials Center for Environmental Sciences and Technology Management / Albany NanoTech complex. As a sub-contractor, the Marx team installed the structure for the 225,000 SF facility, which houses a 35,000 SF cleanroom for prototyping and fabrication of 300mm semiconductor wafers. Completion of the CESTM Phase II project positioned the UAlbany business incubator as one of only 20 facilities in the world capable of producing the next-generation 300mm wafers. The project was recognized by New York Construction News with a 'Best of 2004 Award of Merit: Education Category'. |
