Roosevelt Presidential Library, Museum & Home Site This presitigious project was awarded to U.W. Marx by the National Archives and Records Administration. NARA conducted a nation-wide search for a construction company with proven experience in historic restoration and renovation, as well as sensitivity to the unique challenges encountered at a national historic site. In addition to extensive renovations and restoration at the FDR Presidential Library and Museum, the project included construction of the new Henry A. Wallace Visitor, Education & Conference Center. FDR Presidential Library Hyde Park, NY RENOVATION / CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT AT RISK The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame U.W. Marx's assignment as Construction Manager was to work with Butler Rowland Mays Architects, LLP of Ballston Spa, NY to renovate the existing building into a first-rate retrofit museum befitting the Upstate New York horse-racing and resort community. "The project was an important undertaking by the Museum. It involved not only the addition of new exhibition and collection storage space, but also the renovation to virtually all of our existing facility. We had far too much to risk if we exceeded the budget or were not able to open the new wing in time for our 50th Anniversary. Our new exhibition facility, which was designed to maintain an extremely stable museum climate, had to be completed in advance of the actual public opening, so that we could prove that it was safe to display approximately $300,000,000 worth of borrowed paintings." National Museum of Racing & Hall of Fame Saratoga Springs, NY HISTORIC RENOVATION / CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT AT RISK Acton Civill Senior Apartments U.W. Marx was hired to carefully renovate and convert the long-vacant and deteriorated school building into a much-needed community senior housing facility. The National Historic Register-listed building was rehabilitated with funding from the New York Housing Trust Fund and private investors. The U.W. Marx CM Team successfully converted the building, constructed in 1874, into 28 apartments which were designed for moderate income senior citizens. Marx converted an historic bank building into a state-of-the-art radio studio for WAMC Northeast Public Radio. The project included renovating the first floor of the building into the new 200-seat Linda A. Norris Auditorium. "One of the best things that ever happened to us was finding U.W. Marx to manage the construction of our new WAMC Performing Arts Studio. WAMC Northeast Public Radio Albany, NY HISTORICAL RENOVATION / GENERAL CONTRACTING Gideon Putnam Hotel & Conference Center U.W. Marx conducted two unique construction projects on the grounds of the landmark hotel, located in the heart of the Saratoga Spa State Park. In 1981, Marx constructed a major addition at the Gideon Putnam Convention Center. In 1990, as a direct result of the quality craftsmanship provided during the conference center project, U.W. Marx was contracted to direct a major restoration & renovation effort at the Gideon Putnam Hotel. The project featured enhancements to the lobby, kitchen and dining facilities, as well as extensive upgrades to the historic structure’s mechanical systems.
