NEW CONSTRUCTION

Ridge Hill Development, Yonkers, NY
The Ridge Hill project involves core and shell work for two steel frame structures comprising more than 194,000 sf of new construction including an internal parking garage. The scope of work for the building envelopes consists of construction of masonry walls, CFMF walls with cementitious siding and brick veneer, pre-cast brick veneer walls, aluminum window, curtain wall, EPDM, Built-up Modified Bituminous, and Polycarbonate roofing, and MEP service distributions.

In order to provide a safe work site for all involved, U.W. Marx has entered into a ‘Comprehensive Safety and Health Partnering Agreement’ between OSHA, the NYS Department of Labor Division of Safety and Health, The Building and Construction Trades Council and The Building Contractors Association of Westchester and Mid-Hudson, Inc.

According to project architect Studio 5 Partnership Architects/Planners, LLC, the Ridge Hill Project will include 1.3 million square feet of national merchant retail with 7,000 parking spaces, 5,000 of which are located in parking garages spaced at intervals across the project. The design is intended to promote a village-like atmosphere but with a contemporary feel through the use of a variety of materials to add texture and liveliness to the streetscape and public areas.

NEW CONSTRUCTION

Phoenix Home Life Operations Center, East Greenbush, NY
The Phoenix Home Life Operations Center is a new, award-winning 146,000 SF corporate office and operations center completed on an extreme fast-track schedule. The design and construction team led by U.W. Marx and architect Gregory Seleman (now associated with Woodward Connor Gillies & Seleman Architects) was given only 14 months from the date of site selection to design & construct the building for client occupancy. The compressed schedule was further complicated by the owner's desire to have an architecturally significant building on a topographically challenging site.

Construction of the Class A Office Building included installation and commissioning of state-of-the-art telecommunications, computer and environmental systems as well as advanced lighting controls. Upscale finishes were constructed in many areas, such as the corporate boardroom and dining facility. Constant value analysis and cost control allowed the owner to meet their budget while incorporating numerous aesthetic upgrades.

"Throughout the project (Phoenix Home Life Insurance Operations Center) U.W. Marx's personnel were vigilant in keeping to a very aggressive (some said impossible) construction schedule and guarded budget. Due to this vigilance Phoenix realized a 13% savings on its budget and opened the facility on schedule. Not only were your people highly professional and extremely competent, they were, as individuals, a great pleasure to work with."
Carl T. Chadburn, CLU
Executive Vice President

NEW RESTAURANT CONSTRUCTION

McDonald's Restaurants, NYS Thruway Service Plazas
U.W. Marx constructed new McDonald's Restaurants at Mohawk Service Plaza and Malden Service Plaza, both located along the NYS Thruway.

The Marx project team overcame numerous obstacles in meeting the owner's agressive timetable, including continuing construction through one of the coldest and snowiest winters on record in upstate New York.

"I can definitely say that I have never had a job (McDonald's at the Mohawk Service Plaza) where all parties, inspectors, project managers, superintendents and tradesmen were such (a) cohesive team unit with a can-do attitude that persisted to make this goal happen...congratulations to you and your organization...they were truly magnificent."
Taylor McDermott, P.E.
McDonald's Corp. Project Manager
