NEW CONSTRUCTION
Phoenix Home Life Operations Center, East Greenbush, NY
The Phoenix Home Life Insurance Operations Center is a new, award-winning 146,000 SF corporate office and
operations center completed on an extreme fast-track schedule. The design and construction team lead by U.W. Marx and architect
Gregory Seleman, who is now associated with
Woodward Connor Gillies & Seleman Architects was given only 14 months
from the date of site selection to design & construct the building for client occupancy.
The compressed schedule was further complicated by the owner's desire to have an architecturally significant building on a topographically challenging site.
The selected site had a highly variable rock profile with weak overburden soils.
The geotechnical report indicated a rock-bearing foundation system would be required. After evaluating the options available,
the design and construction team chose a drilled concrete pier system, saving the owner time and money.
The building consists of four levels of occupied space with a 5th-story mechanical penthouse.
The exterior skin of the structure is pre-cast concrete panels with a two-tone exposed aggregate finish.
Construction of the Class A Office Building included installation and commissioning of state-of-the-art
telecommunications, computer and environmental systems as well as advanced lighting controls.
Upscale finishes were constructed in many areas, such as the corporate boardroom and dining facility. Constant value analysis and
cost control allowed the owner to meet their budget while incorporating numerous aesthetic upgrades.
