The Kingston Hospital - Critical Care Unit

U.W. Marx constructed a gut renovation of a portion of the existing Critical Care Unit at The Kingston Hospital to provide three new state-of-the-art isolation rooms and two new ICU rooms. Overall project coordination was extremely unique as the existing CCU stayed in 100% operation and the only entrance into the existing CCU was through the work zone.

The new rooms had to be completely built out on both sides of the existing ICU corridor without disturbing traffic flow to the existing unit beyond our construction area. Temporary partitions and plastic barriers had to be maintained throughout the project to create a clean space for patients, nursing staff, and the public to pass through.

All electrical work was extremely complex because the entire CCU (both new and existing) received new normal and emergency power electrical panels and all work had to be switched over and completed in a manner so that new existing ICU rooms never lost power at any point while the switch over was made.
