Multi-Site Project Construction Technician

U.W. Marx is seeking a Multi-Site Project Construction Technician with at least 1 year of commercial construction experience to work on our Hillside View Apartments project in Schenectady, NY.
As a Construction Technician, you will work as part of the U.W. Marx on-site construction project management team and directly for the project superintendent and the assistant project manager. Each day will be unique, requiring a diverse set of skills. You will collaborate with team members to assess and respond to construction related issues and tasks and provide support to ongoing construction activities throughout the multi-site project.

  • Required Tasks:
  • General Jobsite Cleanup: Sweeping, removal of debris and trash from buildings and streets
  • Material Management: Organizing, distributing and accounting for construction materials
  • Office Work: Typing letters, data entry, printing and scanning
  • General Construction Labor: Misc task relating to all aspects of construction

  • Requirements:
  • 1+ years of hands-on general construction experience

  • OSHA 10 certified

    Estimator

    U.W. Marx is seeking an Estimator with at least 5 years of commercial construction experience to work on negotiated and competitively bid building projects in the Northeastern US. Estimators will work closely with Owners, Architects, Engineers, Consultants, and Subcontractors.
    Desired skills:

  • Experience preparing detailed conceptual cost estimates and cost studies from schematic and feasibility level documents.
  • Ability to prepare detailed estimate updates to document cost and scope variances between design iterations.
  • Ability to generate Value Engineering solutions for the project team.
  • Experience estimating and bidding lump sum projects including self-performed tradework.
  • A working knowledge and understanding of construction costs and the factors that affect field production and construction methods.
  • Experience reviewing contract terms to identify conditions affecting onsite and home office general requirements.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive instructions to bidders and sub-trade bid package scopes of work.
  • Experience negotiating and drafting subcontracts and purchase orders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Sage/Timberline Estimating, On Screen Take –Off, and Primavera/Oracle scheduling.

    Project Manager

    U.W. Marx is seeking experienced project managers for various upstate New York construction projects, including but not limited to, healthcare and educational facilities, historic renovation, sports complexes, commercial offices and research laboratories.

    Candidates should have good relevant experience in industrial/institutional construction, and be conversant in construction management software systems.

    A minimum of 5-10 years experience is required with projects in the $5-$50 million range. Experience with both "Agency" and "at Risk" work is desirable. A degree is also a plus.

    Project Superintendent
    U.W. Marx is seeking candidates for Project Superintendent positions. The selected candidates will have a minimum of 5-7 years experience on $5 million - $30 million commercial and institutional projects coordinating and supervising all phases of the construction process.

    Candidates need to understand contracts, plans, and specifications, and be knowledgeable about construction methods, materials, and regulations. Familiarity with computers and software programs for job costing, online collaboration, scheduling, and estimating also is important.

    The ability to coordinate several major activities at once, while analyzing and resolving specific problems, is essential, as is an understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings. Good oral and written communication skills also are important, as are leadership skills.

    The Superintendent candidate must be able to establish a good working relationship with many people, including owners, other managers, designers, supervisors, and craft workers.

    This position will be headquartered in Troy, NY. Travel from the home office will be required.
